Meeting Porch · The Gram Files · Story Four · Snot Nose Pig Patrol
The Patrol flew to Florida expecting a rescue. It found one Gram, one pool, and zero emergencies — the most suspicious perfect day in the history of the file.

The dispatch arrived in March 2026, and it read like a postcard somebody sends on purpose, to a specific audience, back home in Pennsylvania where the weather was being Pennsylvania about everything.
Gram was enjoying a quiet day at Shanna’s pool. All by herself. She had gotten away from the awful PA weather for a few days, and her official assessment of the situation was that it could not get any better than this.
The Patrol mobilized immediately. A member of the family, alone, in another state, reporting that things were perfect? Experience said: investigate. The pigs packed the Florida kit (sunscreen, snacks, one (1) backup snack) and deployed to Fort Myers.
Findings, in order of discovery:
The pool: blue, calm, and occupied by exactly one grandmother, floating in the particular silence of a woman whose house, at that moment, contained zero visiting relatives, zero raffle drums, and zero weather.
The emergency: none. The Patrol checked twice. Red checked a third time, from inside the pool, and reported the emergency situation as “warm.”
The Pennsylvanian weather: still awful, per her report, and now somebody else’s problem for a few days.
Blue attempted to open a case file and, finding no case, opened a lemonade instead. Rainbow filed the day under a category the Patrol almost never gets to use: Nothing Wrong Whatsoever. Yellow requested that the investigation be extended indefinitely, on grounds of ongoing nothing-wrongness, and was overruled on the grounds that somebody had to go home and feed the files.
From the field report
The Florida arrangement runs both directions, by the way — the winter before, it was Shanna coming home to Pennsylvania, announced by Gram in three happy words: “Shanna is home!” The Patrol has mapped this route and labeled it the Family Freeway: whoever needs the other one’s weather, or the other one’s company, gets on it.
The file does not close at the pool. Months earlier, in her birthday post for Shanna — “best daughter ever,” in the official wording — Gram had looked past the pool days and the visits and named the event she is actually waiting for: our next dance party.
The Patrol has begun rehearsals. They are going badly. Yellow dances like a shopping cart with a wobbly wheel; Red dances like the floor owes him money; Blue has submitted a written request to be assigned to refreshments. Rainbow, who has all the colors, has been appointed lead dancer on the theory that he is the most festive.
Escape: successful and, frankly, earned. Gram is awarded the Golden Snout for Best Use of a Granddaughter’s Pool. The Florida file remains open for one reason only — a dance party is outstanding, and the Patrol intends to be ready, or at least hydrated.
Story notes: Built from Angie Klippi’s Facebook posts — March 16, 2026 (the pool day and the escape from Pennsylvania weather), February 21, 2025 (“Shanna is home!”), November 21, 2025 (Shanna’s birthday and the next dance party), with the Caribbean note from October 28, 2026. The pool, the weather report, and the great time are as she described them. The deployment, the float, and the rehearsals are the Patrol’s invention, as usual.
